Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney

Once the current Coronavirus crisis is over we must hope that we will all have learned some valuable lessons, but right now the threat it poses serves to remind us of our mortality. It is perhaps an opportunity to think about the provisions we have made for the future - in particular the need to make or update our Will and establish a Lasting Power of Attorney.
One seemingly attractive solution is to purchase a Will from a high street shop/online. However, when asked if legal and recommended as a cheaper option Gary Stones, one of Chimney Farm’s trustees and a solicitor with over 30 years experience of preparing Wills commented, “ Whilst I cannot give advice on those, my experience is that they can often be wrongly worded which can create more issues than solutions. It’s imperative that professional advice is sought for such an important legal document.”
But help is at hand!
Gary has kindly agreed to offer all our followers, supporters, adopters, their families and friends a discounted service. This is not a money making opportunity but a service offered to make sure we are all fully prepared. If you have your own legal advisor, please contact them and seek some guidance. Having some experience with the probate system, it can be a lengthy procedure that can take many years. Leaving finances on hold and loved ones without provisions. We feel it is important that you are fully and legally prepared and your wishes are documented and enacted upon passing.
You can also include your wishes on care of your pets within your Will, this is an important factor, we all want to know our pets are cared for if we pass so please do factor your wishes for them into your Wills.
Gary will also donate 10% of all proceeds to Chimney Farm.
Wills
If you do not have a valid Will, the law will dictate what happens to your estate. A valid Will sets out what should happen to your estate and who you wish to deal with it.You can also name who you wish to appoint as guardians of your pets / children and set out your wishes for your funeral. A Will can also help reduce inheritance tax that might be payable on the value of your property and money you leave behind.
