Today after the morning cardboard bin collection we met Rudi (turbovet) as he had arranged all my vaccines, 100 vaccines bought today as a result of your lovely donations, 250 euros from Lisa Hardy and 250 euros from our English donations Lisa and I had raised..so we stopped to buy some supplies and a cheeky fried egg roll and a coffee on route as forgot we hadn't eaten breakfast!
The doggies from the hell hole are still not out and this upsets me greatly, so I chat with Vlad and he agrees to make a temporary shelter to the side of the prison (the so called shelter) and the hell hole dogs can have some fresh air.
So the lads were busy all day and made a great job..the hell hole babies will be free in there tomorrow as too dark tonight to be able to move them..so there is finally light in the distance for them..but we do clean their pens first, give a morning cuddle, nice food and some music as entertainment.... so it's barable until tomorrow!
Our job today was to vaccinate as many of the dogs as possible because having so many unvaccinated dogs in one enclosed space is irresponsible
and a recipe for disaster with disease! This is always the first thing to do
when you run a shelter responsibly. So today all the hell hole dogs were
vaccinated and little skinny girl who I showed in the pics yesterday went free today, she ran out in the grass and I could see her smile, she ran and ran and I knew she would be back before we left..and she was, she came up to me and allowed me to touch her.. Waggy tail, the difference air and freedom make to a dogs mental wellbeing!
We had two great assistants today, Anna an animal technician and another lovely lady I'm sorry I do not remember her name but she will know who I mean. The four of us, vaccinated, de wormed, de flead, photographed and wrote lists of ear numbers and descriptions, 36 dogs today.. It
doesn't seem a lot but the dogs are so scared of human touch and the bars yard public shelter put these ear tags in their ears, so wide and barbaric they are still painful two months or so on and about 60% are infected. So it's difficult to touch near the head and it takes some time, we don't want to stress them by scruffing and muzzling so we do it the nice way, bribery with food and time.. So 36 we are happy with, tomorrow we will see how many more.
So the total is 36 dogs vaccinated, 20 dogs treated for infection/sickness, 64 wormed and de flead! Still lots more to do.
Daniel had spotted a mother and three babies on the road near the shelter and he said they were not well, so off we went to try and catch them. When I saw them I could see the puppies were so infected with mange one all his paws were swollen and red and hardly no fur. Poor little pup would have been so sore and itchy. So we took them all and keep them separate and treat for mange, so hopefully in a few weeks they will be recovered, see the photos to follow.
We will give more money tomorrow to Vlad and he will build a second outside shelter for some others from the inside to get some air, so we're excited for tomorrow. Tomorrow Lisa and I have to chose a few dogs to save for ourselves. My lovely friend Gloria has agreed to find and pay the transport for one dog, she already has a dog I rescued from Greece and I'm so grateful for her, she has donated £120 and will pay transport costs, amazing woman!
So we have to chose 5 dogs to be saved, It's a hard decision as so many are so lovely, it's just so difficult. Can anyone please get on touch if you can adopt any or spread the word. Make a poster in your local parks. Together we can all try!
The bad news is the crazy bitches who caused this mess may get the shelter back, the ASPA the public shelter arse's who make the decisions with mayor are contemplating it.. Bagdat, Auri and lots of others are trying there best to prevent this. So let's pray for a good outcome!
The good news story is my really poorly brindle boy, had a solid
poop today and is eating well and wagging his tail and let me touch him.
The day to day running is immense, cleaning feeding medicating, trying to
socialise and gain trust whilst tying to stimulate their poor inactive brains.
Takes time and we are sad that when we go interest will be lost and if these
witches retake what will become of these souls. It's a very difficult situation out here and when speaking with the Romanian volunteers they tell me
to make sure I tell everyone to boycott Romania, never come for tourism as they
are all arseholes, they hate Romania and what it stands for.. Such a shame to
hear there is no pride for them as so much corruption and In humane
