Meet Zorro, one of our siblings rescued from Egypt.
Zorro was rescued along with his mum and brothers from being poisoned at a Cairo bus station. His rescuers in Egypt saved the family, with no exit plan the dogs had to eb taken to the local shelter, over 6-00 dogs and not good conditions, only fed once a day dn usually chicken feet. Pretty horrible place.
His rescuers asked us for help and as soon as we agreed Robert and Sherine removed all the dogs from the shelter and kept them safe and prepared them for travel to the UK.
Zorro spent almost 5 months of his short life in the shelter and has missed out on all his important stages of socialisation and learning.
Zorro arrived 30th September and went to a foster without other dogs, Zorro has blossomed and is learning the ropes, he will need firm boundaries, routine, walks, meeting dogs daily. He has learnt so much in foster and we want this to continue.
Zorro is fully vaccinated, neutered and microchipped.
His new family will need to be prepared for the hard work of a pup.
The decision to adopt a rescue dog should not be taken lightly - we have had dogs returned as people have not been fully prepared for the hard work that can be needed.
Please only apply if you are 100% to the hard work and commitment required.
IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO ADOPT IMMEDIATELY PLEASE DO NOT APPLY AS YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE A REPLY.
Our foster home has provided the feedback below:
Dog name: Zorro
Date of arrival: 30 September
Where does Zorro sleep at night ?
He sleeps downstairs on his soft doggie bed. He is quite boney and likes comfy surfaces. He prefers living room and a soft rug.
How is Zorro with current pets?
We haven’t got other pets. Our neighbour’s cat tried to come through the back door and Zorro barked at him. During the walks he was ok meeting cats and squirrels.
Is Zorro clean indoor? - Absolutely. He goes out in a garden. He prefers to hold on until early in the morning or late at night, than have one big wee.
Can Zorro be left alone?
He can be anxious at first, whining a bit, than settles, specially with radio in a background. He has been left alone between 30-45 min twice a day.
Is Zorro out for walks?
He loves daily school walks. He would sit by the school gate letting all the children to stroke him. He is now liking car journeys, although initially was quite scared, even had a panic wee. He is now happy to travel in a boot or back seat and not shy to jump in. He also loves walking around the loca lake and sits in dog-friendly café there.
How does Zorro walk on lead?
Fine with lead or harness. He will be off lead when bonds with his family and has some recall work. He is very gentle and does not pull. My 9 y. o. son walks him easily.
Has Zorro met other dogs?
He has met plenty of dogs. He is defensive if they approach too fast. He can growl and show teeth because he is unsure and needs slow introduction, best at a distance and on neutral ground. He may bark, but is not aggressive.
How is Zorro with humans?
He may appear shy at first. More towards men than women. He adores children.
Have you noticed Zorro is afraid of any particular thing?
He seems to dislike puddles. And appear unsettled during strong wind.
Any useful information?
Zorro will need to continue building his confidence and trust. He likes secure garden. He doesn’t like closed doors in a house.
He is a very affectionate and loving pet. He likes being washed and dried. He loves snuggles and cuddles. Zorro will need the whole family to invest in training and settling Zorro into a family and not one main carer as he bonds and can become protective, but with the whole family and some boundaries he learns quickly.
Zorro has a potential to be an amazing companion. He is smart, loving and very quick learner. He will require patience and good routine to settle down. Once he is able to fully trust his new owner, he will blossom into perfect member of a family.
