Meet the lovely Jimmy, enjoying life in the UK.
Jimmy loves to run and is a very active youngster. Initially, he was scared of loud sudden noises but has now learned to live with them. He is still a bit shy of strangers but he is a clever boy and a quick learner who is eager to please. Jimmy sleeps well overnight, he is clean in the house and will ask to go out if the door is closed. Jimmy is fully vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered. Although Jimmy has spent a little time in foster, he is still in need of continued training. So his new family will need to be prepared for the consistent work of introducing a pup to domestic life in the UK - basic training, walking on and off lead, getting used to noises and living in a home. The decision to adopt a puppy should not be taken lightly - we have had puppies returned as people have not been fully prepared for the hard work that can come. If you invest time and energy into the advice we give you, Jimmy will adapt and become well a rounded dogs. But please do not underestimate this can mean a few weeks of consistent work. Our foster home has provided the feedback below: Dog’s name: Jimmy Where does Jimmy sleep at night? Jimmy spent the first three night snuggled up to us as close as he possibly could to us. The last two nights we have managed to get to him to sleep in a cosy deep cat bed by the side of our bed. He sleeps through the night with no problems. How is Jimmy with current dogs/animals? Jimmy adores other dogs and very much needs them! He is super excited to meet any dog but is also a very submissive dog so is straight onto his belly. He loves his two foster sisters but completely relies on our more confident dog and will follow her and do whatever she does. I have never known my dogs to accept a dog as quickly as they did Jimmy- within one hour they were best friends. Jimmy ignores the cat and the chickens showing no interest. Is Jimmy clean indoors? Jimmy was in foster care in Crete and was clean for the vast majority of the time. When he moved to us, we had a couple of accidents, mainly because Jimmy was scared to go out in the garden or anywhere new. We have had no accidents for the last three days. Jimmy will wet himself when he is anxious, and this is normally surrounding you trying to pick him up. For example, if we need to pick him up to go outside he will do a little wee in fear but he is getting much better. Can Jimmy be left alone? Jimmy has been left for up to 45 minutes with our dogs and we have not experienced any issues. How is Jimmy out on walks? Initially Jimmy was very anxious to go out on the walk because it was all new. He walked well but seemed startled at everything. We have taken him to the same place each day and he has grown in confidence so much. He has been off the lead for the last two days and loves it. He runs around with his foster sisters and has great recall. Jimmy does get scared when you go to put the lead back on and he will cower away and wee. It is best to get low to the ground and make excited noises to get him to come over. How does Jimmy walk on the lead? Jimmy walks really nicely on the lead and does not pull. Has Jimmy met with other dogs? Jimmy loves other dogs and wants to be with other dogs. He is very friendly but submissive. How is Jimmy with humans? Jimmy loves children especially. He adores people but when you first meet him he will submissively commando crawl towards you and you can see he is anxious. Jimmy is such a wonderful dog and if you put in a little effort, you get an abundance of affection back. He really loves us, and we love him too. Have you noticed that Jimmy is afraid of any particular things? Jimmy is scared of anything new - new home, new garden, new walk, but once he has done it a few times he just blossoms. He is most scared of thinking he will be “grabbed”. For example when you need to pick him up to take him outside or when you go to put his lead back on- he will cower and wee himself. This has been getting better but he has obviously had a terrible experience where he has been “grabbed” and hurt in the past. He is NOT aggressive just terribly submissive. What kind of home do you think would be suitable? Jimmy needs a home with another confident dog as he gains so much from them. He is good with children and loves to snuggle and cuddle. Jimmy must understand he will need to develop his confidence all over again when he moves. It won’t take long but it will take understanding, compassion and patience and you will be rewarded in so much "Jimmy love" you wont know what to do!! Jimmy doesn’t need to be with humans all the time and often when I am working he is asleep in another room- sometimes he joins me mostly he needs to be with another dog. I have loved all of my foster dogs, but Jimmy has stolen my heart. I would 100% keep him if it did not mean I would have to give up fostering! 17/01 |
