We cannot believe that our sweet little Ira has not found. A family as yet, it is very sad that a pup has had to stay in foster for 2 weeks, as she is beautiful and ready to find her forever family.
Below is a paragraph from her foster mum Jo as it is always nice to get a perspective from her foster home on how little Ira will be as a family pet. Ira is gorgeous, just over 5 months and she will be small to medium. Ira does love being around other dogs so we do need another dog in the home who will love a happy little sister who will love to snuggle up and enjoy life with. It is hard not to get attached to all of the wonderful dogs from Chimney Farm but this little pup has stolen our hearts. She is such a sweet and affectionate little girl who loves to curl up on your lap or will snuggle at your feet. Initially she was a bit shy and nervous and would chew things she wasn’t allowed but in just 2 weeks, she has learnt the rules beautifully and turned into a confident and settled puppy. Ira is a quick learner and understands the word “no”. Instead of taking our shoes, she will now go and find something from her toy box and bring it to us to play. She seeks out company and is a little shadow to our dog Basil, copying everything he does and learning the ropes from him. She has no problems being left at home with Basil and they snuggle up together in one of the dog beds, which is usually where we find them both when we get home. She has also been out with us to the pub and after a few initial sniffs, settled under the table during our meal. She attracted a lot of attention from other patrons saying how well behaved she was. Apart from the occasional accident, she is clean during the day and at night and if we forget to take her outside, she asks to go out when she needs to toilet with a little whimper or bark. Ira walks beautifully on the lead and is off the lead in fields/parks and comes back when called for a little treat. She loves other dogs and is fearless, wanting to play with them all no matter how big or boisterous they are. She also loves to play ball, cheekily stealing another dog’s ball on occasion in the hope they will play chase. During the day when I am working, she lies in a bed next to me and when I chat to her, she rolls over for a tummy rub. Ira is gentle with children and loves it when they play with her. She joins my daughters on their trampoline and catches the toys that they bounce around for her. Ira loves a sunny spot and stretches out in the garden when she finds one to soak up the rays. I have no doubt that Ira will make some lucky family complete and they will fall in love the way we have. IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO ADOPT NOW PLEASE DO NOT APPLY AS WE ARE A SMALL TEAM AND ARE ONLY ABLE TO PROCESS APPLICATIONS IF ADOPTERS ARE READY TO ADOPT. Our foster home has provided the feedback below: Dogs name: Ira Where does Ira sleep at night? Ira sleeps in her bed downstairs in the hallway next to our dog, Basil. Sometimes she will get into bed with Basil too. She sleeps all night without making any noise. How is Ira with current pets? Ira is playful with Basil and seeks him out. She follows his lead around the house and on walks and copies what he does e,g if Basil picks a toy from his toy box, Ira gets one too or when Basil starts rolling on the grass, she joins in. It’s very sweet. Is Ira clean indoors? During the day she is clean inside. She will start to whimper or get restless and we know she wants to go out. At night, she has the occasional wee on the puppy pad, but usually will bark at the bottom of the stairs asking to go out. Can Ira be left alone? Yes, Ira has been left alone many times, the longest being 3 hours and when we come home, she is usually snuggled up to Basil in his bed. We leave a few chew toys and leave them in the entrance hall. Is Ira out on walks? Yes, she loves her walks. She is walking beautifully on the lead using a harness, has been on the long lead in certain areas and runs around exploring but keeps coming back to either Basil or us. She doesn’t go far. She is also off lead during parts of her walks and her recall is coming along nicely. She has managed some really long walks too through the woods/fields and has amazing stamina for a pup. She will then sleep for ages afterwards. How does Ira walk on the lead? She walks well on the lead and will come to your side when you give a short tug on the lead. Has Ira met with other dogs? Yes, she has met many dogs on the walks and is really playful. She is fairly fearless and has engaged some really large and boisterous dogs in play. If she senses another dog is anxious or grumpy, she will skirt around the edge cautiously. How is Ira with humans? Ira has learnt that humans are kind and now approaches people for affection. She has also learnt from Basil that other dog walkers can be generous with their treats if you sit beautifully in front of them. She is amazing with children of all ages. Have you noticed if Ira is afraid of any particular things? She is a little nervous about noisy traffic and will freeze on the pavement if a noisy truck goes past but once it has gone, she carries on walking. She does it less when walking next to Basil. She is not phased by the hoover or washing machine. Any other useful information ? Ira seeks out one of us or Basil so she loves company. If we lift her up, she snuggles in and is very affectionate. She settles beautifully during the day next to me in my office and is a little hot water bottle in the evenings on our laps under the blanket while we watch TV. She has been great with children and gets very playful when they are running around. She is a puppy so does occasionally chew and particularly loves shoes, so we have had to make sure they are not accessible to her. If she starts chewing something she is not allowed, she will drop it with a firm “No” from us and we then give her a dog toy and she will play / chew that instead. She eats happily out of her bowl and does not steal food from Basil’s bowl if he’s still eating. She has learnt the command “sit” and realises now that she gets her food/treats when she sits. She is a quick leaner and my children are starting to teach her to weave through their legs. What is Ira’s ideal home: Ira would love to be in a home with children of any age who will play with her and will need another dog in the house as she is very sociable and needs to learn the ropes from an older dog. She is very obviously copying our dog Basil and learning from him and she actively engages him in play.
