Meet Ben from Crete. Abandoned in Crete alone with no hope.
Ben is good with dogs and cats and he loves humans.
Ben likes to play and be around other dogs so ideally another dog I the home. If you do not have another dog in the home you will need to fully detail how you plan to socialise Ben.
His new family will need to be prepared for the hard work of a pup - basic training, toileting, walking on and off lead, getting used to noises and living in a home.
The decision to adopt a puppy should not be taken lightly - we have had puppies returned as people have not been fully prepared for the hard work that can come. If you invest time and energy into the advice we give you, Ben will adapt and become a rounded dog. But please do not underestimate this can mean a few weeks of hard work.
Please only apply if you are 100% committed to the hard work a puppy can bring, broken sleep, toilet training, socialisation, boundaries. The first week is very important and with the right boundaries and guidance Polo will easily adjust and make a lovely addition to any home but adopters need to be fully prepared.
IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO ADOPT NOW PLEASE DO NOT APPLY AS WE ARE A SMALL TEAM AND NEED TO PRIORITISE FAMILIES WHICH ARE READY.
Our foster home has provided the feedback below:
Dog's name: Ben
Where does Ben sleep at night?
So far he has slept in my bedroom on a dog bed. He slept soundly until 6.30am and then had breakfast and a wee. We then went back to bed for 2 hours where he slept solidly for another couple of hours!
How is Ben with current dogs/animals?
He currently lives with my resident 3 year old Labrador. He was a bit hesitant at first but now is perfectly happy around him and follows his lead.
He sat and watched the ducks at the pond this morning
Is Ben clean indoors?
Ben had one accident in the house but has been to the toilet outside all other times
Can Ben be left alone?
I haven’t tried it for more than a few minutes but I’ve left him downstairs when I’m upstairs and he whined a bit. He will quickly learn that it’s safe for him to be alone for short periods of time
Is Ben out on walks?
Yes he has been out on her first couple of walks and loves it. He loves running about and exploring! He is pretty confident out and about but does bark at people and other dogs. This can be quickly corrected and won’t be a problem going forward
How does Ben walk on the lead?
Ben walks superbly on the lead! At the moment he is on a harness with an extendable lead and is very happy with that
Has Ben met other dogs?
As mentioned above, she lives with my 3 year old Labrador and is confident around him now.
He has barked at other dogs on our walks but it is an excitable bark
How is Ben with humans?
He is very confident around humans! At the moment he relies a little too much on his humans and can be a bit clingy. All totally normal for a little puppy in unfamiliar surroundings. He is a cuddle monster and loves snuggling up to his human friends
Have you noticed that he is afraid of any particular things?
Occasionally he has been a little startled at a loud unexpected noise, but all perfectly normal for a puppy adapting to living in a home
What kind of home do you think would be suitable?
Ben would settle well into a family who has the time to show him the ropes of living in a happy home. He is very confident and easy going and loves exploring and sniffing. He loves people so a household where he's included in daily life and treated like a member of the family, would be lovely for him
He is naturally going to be an agile, energetic and athletic dog, so his new owners will need to be prepared for 2 good long walks a day, therefore an active family who have plenty of time to do this would be ideal.
He is an absolutely beauty of a dog and will make the most incredible loyal family friend
