Meet April who has just arrived from Crete and is settling down in her UK foster home while she waits to find her forever family.
April was rescued from a very sad life, in a Crete shelter, no walks, no love, just alone in a concrete kennel with other dogs, when people entered she would try and be invisible and hide away from those mean humans. She was never given a kind hand, neutered without pain medicine, never walked or loved. Now she is free and safe in the UK. April is fully vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. Although she has spent a some time in foster, she is in need of continued training. Her new family will need to be prepared for the continuing work of introducing a dog to domestic life in the UK - basic training, walking on and off lead, getting used to noises and living in a home. Our foster home has provided the feedback below: Dog's name: April Where does April sleep at night? In the kitchen with our dog & any dogs that are boarding. She settles if with other dogs. But has slept downstairs on her own, her choice so becoming more independent. How is April with current dogs/animals? Loves the other dogs she’s living with, & most she meets out on walks. She’s very playful. Not bothered about cats at all - started to try & to play with them but never chases. Is April clean indoors? She is clean indoors & will go to the back door to be let out for a wee. We put her out in the garden every 2-3 hrs & she will wee everytime. Can April be left alone? Yes if she has the company of another dog, if not she will squeal when leaving but usually settles pretty quick. We’ve left her without dogs for 2-3 hours & she stayed in her bed doesn’t seem worried at all. Is April out on walks? Yes she’s really enjoying her walks. But can be quite nervous when walking along busy streets with oncoming strangers. She will panic a little at noisy cars/motorbikes so will need to keep up with training to reassure her. How does April walk on the lead? April is great on a lead, pulls a little when she gets excited, She constantly checks in. Has April met with other dogs? Yes she's living with our 3, plus met other dogs we have boarding. Also taken her on group walks as I’m a dog Walker. She’s been neutral with all dogs so far, she’s always playing with our Dalmatian but also loves snuggling up to our old girl & other Greek rescue. How is April with humans? She can be a little shy at first, but she is learning to trust & realise humans are ok. She quickly settles and eases with new people. Have you noticed that April is afraid of any particular things? Yes nervous of loud traffic, wary of strangers & loud noises. Any other useful information? April has been in foster with us for nearly 3 weeks now & has blossomed into an amazing dog, it’s been great seeing her grow in confidence so quickly. She can be quite shy with strangers, but soon comes out of her shell. She’s a ball of energy who loves to play with other dogs, & loves her toys, & my socks!! Definitely has a cheeky side & makes us laugh everyday. April sleeps through the night until we go down in the morning around 6.30-7am & greets us with such a wagging tail & kisses. What kind of home do you think would be suitable? April would suit an active house with a companion dog to keep showing her the ropes & play with. She loves her walks & will want to run at any given opportunity. 21/05 |
