Captain is a special boy who had only lived in a kennels since 4 months, he is now 7.5 years old. And it amazes me how easily they adapt to home life. No mess, noise or chewing, just a happy content boy to leave his kennel. Captain raced until he was 5 years old, he has not had any injuries just got too old.
Handsome boy Captain is looking for his special home, his ideal home would have a garden he can do zoomies, maybe another dog he can follow around. If men in the home then patient men who will not expect him to love him straight away, but with time and treats can build up to trust. He does love his walks, so 2 walks a day and a nice cosy bed to sprawl out in.
He cannot be rehomed with cats as a previous encounter means he likes to chase.
It took Captain a week for my husband to gain his trust, so it won't take long but a family just has to allow a little time for him to trust. H enow wags his tail at my husband, comes to him and is happy to be in the same room without fear.
Captain is approx 36kg, he is not neutered, he is 7.5 years old, has the best teeth and lovely markings. He really deserves the best retirement home.
Captain is not neutered, due to his age now we would not say it was essential but a vet opinion would be recommended. His adoption fee will be reduced due to neutering not being completed.
Captain has blossomed into such a funny loving character, he acts like a puppy at feeding and walk times and he is always smiling. He will now happily come in the lounge and lie infant of the fire with us all in the evenings.
Dogs name: Captain
Where does Captain sleep at night?
As you’ll see from the dog spy cam, he likes to make himself comfy on the downstairs guest bed, he is so funny, if we are up too late, he whines as if to tell us to go to bed. As soon as we go upstairs, he hops on the bed and is gone for the night. So cute he rolls up in the duvet and gets all snuggly. He sleeps like a dream and no mess or noise, excited to see us in the morning.
He is allowed to come upstairs but has never attempted the stairs.
How is Captain with current pets?
He is a good boy, follows them in the garden, he walks the same pace on walks, likes to be around other dogs, sometimes looks to play, but not needy with them. Has met dogs outside and wags his tail and has even played with a few.
Is Captain clean indoors?
Yes, never messed at all. Last toilet around 10pm and I let him out around 6am he does his business and then back to bed until 8am.
Can Captain be left alone?
We have left him 1.5 hours, we spy on the camera, he paces a little then settles no issues, just sleeps.
Is Captain out on walks?
He does like his walks, he gets so excited for his walks, like a puppy, he likes to talk so gets chatty when he nows we are going for a walk. Lovely to see. We go for a slower one in the AM as we have an older dog who is slower. Then I take Captain and my younger dog for our power walk around 2.30pm, he loves it, tail up and can go at a quicker pace. We go for around 45 minutes and he sleeps the rest of the day as all the energy is out.
How does Captain walk on the lead?
Captain doesn’t pull, we use an extendable lead if away from roads and he prefers this and likes to sniff. He is wary of men, and when my husband takes him for walks he doesn’t seem as happy yet, his tail doesn’t wag the same. So he needs a bit more time to realise men are not so scary. I have given him off lead walks in secure areas and he is a great boy, doesn't leave us and comes when called. I wouldn't trust him with very small dogs.
Has Captain met with other dogs? Lives with my 3, no issues, very sweet, likes to follow them around. We have met dogs on walks, he likes to say hi and even have a play.
How is Captain with humans? Captain is afraid of men, this is his only issue, he seems very scared of men, he is fine with me, wags his tail, likes to play, comes for kisses, tail always wagging. If my husband comes into the room his tail goes under and he wont go to him yet for cuddles. My husband is a calm man so not overbearing, just Captain doesn’t appear comfortable with men. He is food motivated so will go to him for treats, so with time and bribery he will get there.
Have you noticed if Captain is afraid of any particular things? Other than men. Not afraid of the hoover, lawnmower, thunder or TV noises.
Any other useful information?
Captain is such a happy boy, he acts like a puppy even though he is 7.5 years old, he loves his Zoomies in the garden in the morning, likes to follow our dogs, loves his walks, food and cuddles with me. He smiles alot and chats when wants his dinner or when wants to go to bed. He is full of character and I’m hopeful he will start to like men, as when he gets over that he will be the perfect boy. So much fun to be around and a very easy houseguest.
