Become a foster family

Picture

Our foster families are the heart of our rescue and re-homing endeavours.

Without our foster homes we would not be able to help as many dogs as we do.

We are looking to add to our foster family and are asking for volunteers to join us.

WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO ACCEPT APPLICATIONS FROM FAMILIES WHO HAVE OTHER SOCIABLE DOGS IN THE HOME.

At Chimney Farm Rescue we only take in as many dogs as we have foster Homes for. We don’t have kennels, but instead we like to get our rescues into a home environment to start them on their journey to their forever home.

Would you love to experience the satisfaction of helping a dog just out of a shelter and see the love and excitement in their eyes as they start to realise they’re free?

We have many dogs awaiting their golden ticket out of shelters, or enclosures, and into a loving family - the more foster homes we have the more dogs we can help get to safety.

Generally our dogs arrive at a location in Fleet, Hampshire from where they would need to be collected along with any supplies needed for them. Everything necessary is provided, leads, harnesses, collars, food and bedding.

Where are we based?
We ask that fosters live in or close to the following locations; Fleet/Farnborough/Aldershot/Guildford/Farnham/Woking/Chertsey/Addlestone or Shepperton.

In these areas we have a network of volunteers who can offer help and support for you and your foster dog.

How long will my foster dog stay?
Every dog we offer for adoption receives publicity through our website and social media channels.  Our Facebook site has many followers, so the majority of our foster dogs find their home very quickly. There are always a few shy on or older dogs who may take a little while longer to select the right home. We ask fosters to be able to foster for up to a few weeks in exceptional circumstances.

What do I need to do with my foster dog?
The role of a foster family is to help each dog adjust to a home environment. Many of our dogs come from a shelter or foster home where they are kept outside so they will need to get used to the sights and sound of everyday home life and things we take for granted, like TVs, vacuums, extractor fans and even doorways.

They may need toilet training, learning to walk on a lead and to gain confidence.

They will look to you to give them that confidence.

What if I’m unsure of anything and need help ?
We have a very experienced team of fosters who are always on hand to help and offer advice. No two dogs are the same and all have their own personality so it’s good to have plenty of tools to try out and rest assured we’ve seen most things over the years.!
