Please meet gorgeous Vincenzo. He was found as a stray on the streets and was taken to the vet for treatment. Having treated him they could find no one to care for him or foster him in Crete, so the vet was going to have to put him back on the streets.
At 10 months old, fighting for food and dodging cars just to survive is not the life for this gorgeous boy, so when Chimney Farm heard about his story we stepped in to help. Vincenzo is fully vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. Vincenzo loves his walks, loves playing with dogs, loves cuddles and just being a clean lovely puppy he deserves to be. He is still a pup and would love an active home and to play with other dogs regularly. He has spent a little time in foster, but is still in need of continued training. So his new family will need to be prepared for the consistent work of introducing a rescue dog to domestic life in the UK - basic training, toileting, walking on and off lead, getting used to noises and living in a home. The decision to adopt a rescue dog should not be taken lightly - we have had dogs returned as people have not been fully prepared for the consistent work that maybe needed. If you invest time and energy into the advice we give you, Vincenzo will adapt well to his new UK life. Please note: A reminder - Chimney Farm will be closing by end of 2023 so all adopters need to be aware there will be no rescue back up after November 1st. However, we would like to assure new adoptive families that our rehoming team will be available for advice during the early months of their dog's settling-in period. Our foster home has provided the feedback below: Dog's name: Vincenzo Where does Vincenzo sleep at night? We are working on teaching Vincenzo to settle in his own bed in our bedroom - his preference is to sleep in our bed, but last night he did sleep on his bed so we are getting there. How is Vincenzo with current pets? Vincenzo is a playful boy and would love to play with our dogs all day but unfortunately they find him a little too bouncy. He is otherwise very friendly and respectful. He is too bouncy for the cat's liking but has shown absolutely no aggression towards him. Is Vincenzo clean indoors? Yes, with regular toilet breaks he has been completely clean since he arrived. He even lets you know when he needs to go out and happily goes to the toilet either in the garden or out on walks. Can Vincenzo be left alone? Yes, we have left him for short periods, up to 30 minutes and he was totally fine. He does initially cry and ideally he has a chew or kong with him to distract him. Is Vincenzo out on walks? Yes, Vincenzo loves his walks. He has had several shorter walks so far and has taken all encounters with dogs and humans in his stride. He loves to explore and sniff. How does Vincenzo walk on the lead? Vincenzo is walking nicely most of the time but he can pull when he gets excited. Since he is new to lead walking, I'm sure with some proper lead training he will soon get the gist. Has Vincenzo met with other dogs? Yes, he has met several other dogs and is very happy to give them a sniff and say hello. He might initially bark at bigger dogs but this is due to lack of confidence. With time and ongoing socialization this will stop. He really loves other dogs and would like to play with them all. How is Vincenzo with humans? Vincenzo loves people, attention, cuddles and everything else humans have to offer (including our yummy smelling food). He can be a little shy initially but he soon lets people stroke him and he loves a fuss from people he knows. Like any puppy his age, he can be a little bouncy and mouthy at times, but he is slowly learning that humans don't love that sort of behaviour and he is getting better at sitting nicely when asked. Have you noticed if Vincenzo is afraid of any particular things? Vincenzo is not scared of anything really. He might be cautious in new situations but he quickly gets used to things and his confidence is growing every day. Any other useful information? Vincenzo is a beautiful, energetic puppy. He is full of beans and mischief and will need to learn some boundaries and manners but he is such a lovely boy, who really just wants to please his humans, he will learn quickly. Vincenzo loves to play with toys, chase a ball or learn new commands and tricks. He is very smart and loves his food so will be a pleasure to train. He loves his walks and once fully grown will make a wonderful companion on long hikes or even a smashing running buddy. He travels well in cars. He would be a wonderful fit for an active family with older children as he is too energetic and bouncy for younger ones. And whilst he doesn't show any aggression towards our cat, he tries to pounce on him so I wouldn't recommend homing him with cats (unless very confident and dog savvy maybe). |
