This is Timmy, poor boy was likely born in the shelter or arrived very young, he has lingered there since, no walks, love, toys, comfy blanket. When we met him at the shelter he was shy and not so brave for a cuddle, we knew he had to leave before any permanent damage was done.
He arrived 12th September and what a little superstar, the first 2 days he was shy and scared but blossoming day by day into a wonderful boy.
He has only known life in the shelter, so his new family will need to understand he is still learning about life as a loved pet, home environment, walks, road etc, he needs time and patience to fully adjust.
Timmy is clean indoors and has started to walk on a lead but needs some more guidance to be more confident on the lead. He likes dogs so another sociable dog in the home or regular walks with other dogs.
With the right boundaries and guidance he will all easily adjust and make a great family pet. We ask our adopters to be 100% sure they are ready to commit to the training and hard work required.
IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO ADOPT IMMEDIATELY PLEASE DO NOT APPLY AS YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE A REPLY.
Our foster home has provided the feedback below:
Dogs Name: Timmy
Arrival date: 12th September 2020
Where does Timmy sleep at night?
We initially covered an old bean bag with a blanket which he was sleeping on in the sitting room. He is a big, bony boy so needs lots of padding. This lasted for about 3 nights and he has now taken his place on the sofa. This is much better for him as he is in easy reach of extra fuss. He hasn’t been upstairs yet.
How is the Timmy with current pets?
We have 2 female Jack Russel Terriers who he has got on fine with. Our friend’s cockapoo visited, he loved her, and they played really nicely. We have 2 cats and Timmy doesn’t bother with them at all. Most evenings I will be sitting on the sofa with a cat one side and Timmy the other.
Is Timmy clean in doors?
Yes, he has been amazing so far and no accidents. He seems to hold his wee for ages and then just has a massive one. He goes straight in the garden in the morning and has a wee and a poo.
Can Timmy be left alone? Y
Yes, he has been left on his own with no issues. My husband and I both work so he has been left for up to 3 hours. No chewing or accidents and he seemed settled when we got home.
Is Timmy out for walks? Yes.
Timmy absolutely loves his walks. In fact, he would walk all day given the chance. I am managing 3 walks a day and he would happily have more.
How does Timmy walk on the lead? Timmy is fantastic on the lead. I am using a harness with him and he walks beautifully. We do walk quite fast but he doesn’t pull. He still gets anxious but the lead gives him confidence and he will look to me for reassurance.
Has Timmy met other dogs?
Timmy loves other dogs!! He is a very sweet and gentle boy and has shown no aggression to even very boisterous dogs. He loves to play.
How is Timmy with humans?
Timmy is still a very shy boy but improving every day.. Initially we couldn’t get anywhere near him, but he is slowly and surely getting used to humans. He absolutely wants to be loved and is learning how to respond. We have had him for Timmy week now and he is very affectionate and confident with me. He also adores my younger son, age 8 and he gets lots of kisses. He is wary of men but is slowly warming to my husband. Timmy will still retreat to under the table when he is nervous but is now easier to get out.
Gentle exposure is working wonders and every walk we do Timmy is getting braver. We have advanced to the school run now which Timmy is taking in his stride. He is very sweet with the children and will let them stroke him. Timmy is still wary of men but I’m sure this improve with time.
Have you noticed Timmy is afraid of any particular thing?
Timmy does not seem bothered by noise at all – he has not reacted to my hairdryer, the vacuum cleaner or even the leaf blower. It is just people that make him nervous, but this is a work in progress, and I know he will overcome this with the right family.
Any other useful information?
Timmy enjoys his food but is very timid around it. He is a very gentle eater and gets spooked easily when eating and then leaves it. He is quite skinny and need feeding up, so we are putting it in a quiet place where he won’t be disturbed. He is partial to a bit of cheese and chicken.
Timmy’s personality is starting to appear, and I think he has the potential to be a cheeky boy. He has hidden a few things in the garden, mainly shoes and socks. His favourite thing to do is emptying the dogs toy box – he takes everything out into the garden one by one. He also takes things off the coffee table and enjoys helping with the washing!!
We have hardly heard Timmy bark. He did have a little woof at the neighbour’s dogs yesterday but that is about it. He does have quite a lot of nervous energy and will squeak and whine a little bit.
Timmy is great in the car. He has learnt that it means a different and more exciting walk and he happily jumps in.
Timmy is the sweetest, kindest dog with such a gentle soul. He will need a lot of hard work and patience, but I know this will pay off and he will make the most wonderful companion.
I think he would like a very active family that go for lots of long walks. He would be fine as an only dog if he has plenty of opportunity to meet other dogs. He is a big, strong boy with the potential to become stronger as he fills out so he will need a family that can handle that. A good size garden would also be desirable.
Timmy is an absolute super star and we adore him. I am so excited that he is going to start living the life he deserves with a family that will love and take care of him.
