Welcome Sophia who recently arrived from Crete, Sophia was kept in a tiny concrete enclosure with her 3 babies. They are around 2.5 months old, we are not sure how long she has been at the shelter but sadly for her she was neutered whilst still feeding pups.
No matter how many times we tell the shelter manager not to neuter mums with pups, he does not listen. Poor Sophia is very forgiving and still loves humans and is just happy to be free of her shelter life. Sophia is loving her new life, Sophia is a clever affectionate and active girl, she is clean indoors, sociable, loves human affection. Sophia is fully vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. The decision to adopt a dog should not be taken lightly - we have had dogs returned as people have not been fully prepared for the hard work that can come. If you invest time and energy into the advice we give you, Sophia will adapt well. But please do not underestimate this can mean a few weeks of consistent work. With the right boundaries and guidance Sophia will easily adjust and make a lovely addition to any home, but adopters need to be fully prepared. Our foster home has provided the feedback below: Dog's name: Sophia Where does Sophia sleep at night. Downstairs on her own. She settles quickly and makes no complaints about being on her own. How is Sophia with current dogs/animals? She loves attention! Very human orientated and will always be pleased to see you. She doesn't take much notice of our two other dogs, although can get jealous at times. We think she would be best as the only dog in the home. Is Sophia clean indoors? No accidents so far! We always make sure to take her outside regularly. Can Sophia be left alone? Yes, she initially complains but after a minute she settles very quickly and will just sleep. Is Sophia out on walks? She is the perfect companion as she will love a walk with you during the day and will cuddle up on the sofa with you in the evening. Best of both worlds! She's very nose focused so does love a sniff. We haven't let her off the lead yet but given how much she loves food, we think her recall training would be fine. How does Sophia walk on the lead? Sophia does have a tendency to pull on the lead and is quite strong. However, with a no-pull harness or halti she tends to slow down which is a lot more manageable. She needs lots of exercise and will be very easy to train given her food drive. With a bit of patience she will learn what she is supposed to do on the lead very quickly. Has Sophia met with other dogs? Yes, she's very friendly and loves to say hello. She loves sniffing though so will usually get distracted by some nice smells! She can get quite vocal but with a firm "no" she understands. How is Sophia with humans? A big fan of people! Super super friendly and will always say hello. If you want a happy face to see you in the morning and when you get in the door, she's the one for you! Have you noticed that Sophia is afraid of any particular things? Not yet, she's very outgoing and sure of herself. She's been fine with the dishwasher and hoover so far. Any other useful information She's very food motivated so will be lovely to train! She's already learnt "sit" in the short time we have had her and she is truly just an absolute sweetheart. Always wants to please and will do her best! She's really outgoing and will happily follow you around and try new things! What kind of home do you think would be suitable? An active or busy household where she has people to play with and exercise her. She would be best suited as the only dog but if you have another calm dog who is quite independent and submissive we think she would be fine. No really young kids as she is strong so I'd be worried she would knock them over! She is calm in the house and will make a great snuggle buddy in the evenings. She's SO affectionate! 21/4 |
