Meet Rooney from Crete who arrived a few days ago.
Our sweet boy was in a tiny kennel in a Crete shelter, with 8 other dogs. No walks, cuddles, freedom, toys. Nothing - just misery. Rooney was moved from his prison to foster. He is a sweet chap, affectionate and good with dogs. He just wants a family of her own and lots of love, walks and to live a happy life now. Rooney is doing so well in foster now in the UK. Rooney is fully vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. Rooney can live as an only dog if a family has time to invest in training and socialisation. No to cats. With the right boundaries and guidance he will all easily adjust and make a great family pet. We ask our adopters to be 100% sure they are ready to commit to the training and hard work required. Our foster home has provided the feedback below: Dog's Name: Rooney Arrival date: 5th August 2022 Where does Rooney sleep at night? Rooney sleeps downstairs with 2 of our dogs. He has been a superstar and slept through from 11pm until 7am. How is Rooney with current pets? We have 3 small female dogs who Rooney gets on fine with. The 2 older dogs can be a bit grumpy, and Rooney has been very respectful and left them alone. We have 2 cats and Rooney is really spooked by them and will bark when they go near him. They are both very bold and dog savvy and don’t run. Rooney has completely ignored the chickens. Is Rooney clean in doors? Rooney is doing well and uses the garden. We did have a few leg cocks when he first arrived, but this has stopped. Can Rooney be left alone? Yes, he is such a chilled out little man and not needy at all. He has been left, with our dogs for up to 2 hours. As long as he has had his walk he just settles and sleeps. He has not been destructive at all. Even when we are all home, he will often take himself off to his favourite spot in the house and have a little nap. Is the Rooney out for walks? Yes, Rooney is getting used to the outside world and is enjoying his walks. How does Rooney walk on the lead? Rooney is getting used to the lead. He doesn’t pull but can be a bit hesitant. This is getting better and better with every walk. We are using a harness which he is tolerating well. I don’t think it will be long before he could go off lead. Has Rooney met other dogs? Rooney is great with other dogs and is very confident. He has fantastic doggy manners and other dogs seem to love him. We have seen no aggression whatsoever. How is Rooney with humans? Rooney is a super sweet and gentle soul. He LOVES people, particularly children and is very affectionate. He loves as many kisses and cuddles as he can get and would be fussed all day if he could. Rooney loves my sons who are aged 10 and 13 and they in turn adore him. We only have to catch his eye and he starts wagging his tail. Have you noticed Rooney is afraid of any particular things? Rooney is incredible and is just taking everything in his stride. He has been great with general household noises such as the vacuum cleaner and my hairdryer. We have a busy, crazy house and he seems to quite enjoy that. Any other useful information? Rooney loves his food and is a hungry little boy. We are giving him 3 meals a day as he is a little on the skinny side. We are using a slow feeder to make mealtime last longer as he will inhale his food. He is currently 8kg I think Rooney could live as an only dog but would need lots of doggie playdates. He would also enjoy the company of another kind and playful dog. Rooney is such a confident, calm and chilled out little chap and he will make the most fantastic addition to any family. He is so well adjusted for a dog who has had the life that he has. Rooney is going to need lots of exercise so would love a family who will take him for lovely long walks. Rooney will be easy to train as he is super clever, and food motivated. Rooney can be a bit jumpy when he gets excited, and this will need to be managed. Rooney is very playful with people and will need a family with plenty of time to devote to him. He is learning about toys and beginning to play fetch. He seems to like the cuddly toys. He also likes to chew on a yak cheese or antler. Rooney is absolutely adorable. He is funny, sweet, gentle and super cute. He really is such a character!! In a short space of time, he has absolutely stolen our hearts. We are so excited that he will soon find his forever home and a family who will give him all the love and kindness that he deserves. Good luck gorgeous. Rooney we will miss you a lot!!! xx 11/08 |
