Our sweet little Phoebe has arrived to the UK.

What a sweet soul she is. Phoebe was abandoned with her puppies in Crete, a very skinny little mum and her 3 healthy pups, clearly Phoebe gave all her nutrition to her pups.

No foster offers for this girl so she remained stray for weeks. Unsafe. Always tail wagging keen to please any humans that would feed her.

As soon as we heard about this little lady we agreed to move her to our foster mum in Crete, Phoebe was finally safe, and her 3 happy pups.

Phoebe is the first to travel to the UK, she is wonderful, happy, sociable, a calm lady who will enjoy another dog in the home, not too boisterous but a dog who would enjoy a play now and then.

Phoebe is clean indoors, she is still a bit wary and shy but loves her walks and humans. She just needs a little time to bond and adapt to UK life.

Dog's name: Phoebe

Where does Phoebe sleep at night?

Phoebe sleeps downstairs with our other dog She settles straight away (even on the first night) with no accidents and sleeps until someone goes down in the morning.

How is Phoebe with current pets?
Phoebe is great with our dog, unless we are sat on the sofa with her she is generally where he is in the house and they like to mooch about the garden together. We also had a 6 month old puppy staying and the two of them have had great fun playing. Once she’s had enough Phoebe has a very polite way of saying no and shows such patience.

Is Phoebe clean indoors?

Phoebe is clean indoors. During the day if the door is open she will generally take herself out. Otherwise she will mostly ask but need to pay attention for the signs especially if something may be happening like the washing machine on because she will avoid passing it to get to the garden.

Is Phoebe out on walks and how does she walk on lead?
Phoebe loves her walks and gets very excited and does a little dance when we get ready to go out. She walks well on the lead and the long line tail wagging all the time.

She is so happy to sniff and explore and is now showing she has lots of energy to needs plenty of exercise. She will zoom about and has a very cute bounce when she gets excited.

She loves the car and jumps in with excitement and wasn’t fazed by the pet shop. She walked straight onto the scales, chose a toy, said hello to every person and dog she met and sniffed out the hamsters.

Has Phoebe met with other dogs?
When we first brought Phoebe home her demeanour completely changed as soon as she had met the dogs in our house. She doesn’t necessarily rely on them for confidence but is just very happy in the company of other dogs.

She likes to say hello to all the dogs she meets when out. We have now seen dogs of all sizes and energy levels and she loves and wants to play with them all. She will race about and wrestle and isn’t fazed by size.

How is Phoebe with humans?
Phoebe is happy to interact with everyone she meets. She will happily come on the school run and isn’t phased by being around people and will approach them. She is calm but isn’t completely relaxed and very aware of what they are doing. Understandably she isn’t keen when someone she isn’t used to bends over her or moves too quickly and will drop to the ground. Treats help to win her over and this is getting better as she meets more people when out.

We have had lots of guests and she’s been fine with everyone. Once they are sat down she will jump up and settle next to them happy to have some fuss.

She is happy around people she knows she is still aware of what’s going on at all times but she is relaxing more each day. She doesn’t want to be on your lap but will snuggle up close next to you seeking affection. She loves a stroke and tummy tickle. If you stop, a gentle paw will remind you to carry on. When comfy she will make contended little grumbling noises.

She won’t follow you around the house but you get a big tail wag every time time you’re near. If we’re not all together she will do her rounds and checking in with everyone every so often.

She is good with children, she likes them being on her level and is happy to play as long as they are gentle and not overly fussy or very loud.

Has Phoebe been left alone?
Phoebe has been left alone for a hour and a half with our dog with no problem. She was happy to see us home but certainly not frantic and no mess or destruction.

Have you noticed Phoebe is afraid of any particular things?

Phoebe is a very gentle dog but is understandably very aware of her surroundings at all times. She gets worried when there is lots of activity or noise  around her. She doesn’t like scooters and isn’t keen on the noise of the washing machine or hoover but she will watch cautiously from a point of safety (the sofa, next to you or at your feet) rather than panic or cower. The more she is exposed to these things the better she becomes.

She doesn’t like to walk through the back door if a person is close by and HATES being picked up. We have seen absolutely no defensive signs or growls, not even when being jumped on for the umpteenth time by an annoying puppy!

She has mastered the stairs now and access upstairs but will generally stay downstairs unless our dog is up there.

Any other useful information?
Phoebe loves her food - she has a special wiggle dinner dance - but isn’t greedy. She will eat alongside the other dogs without worrying about her bowl or pestering others. She will watch nearby and given the opportunity will finish off another bowl if it’s left! When out for walks smells and other dogs tend to be more interesting than food so we have started to improve the rewards to make us more interesting. Recall will need some work but she’s keen to please so I’m confident this won’t be a problem once she gets the idea.

She won’t scrounge at the dining table and lays on her bed while we eat. She is quickly learning that food that’s on her level like the coffee table isn’t for her but will still test that rule at the moment!

Other than that she doesn’t chew or take anything that she’s not supposed to but will play with toys and loves to chew an antler.

The perfect family for Phoebe

Phoebe is such a gentle soul with a lot of love to give. You can tell she has suffered at the hands of humans in the past but she is still so affectionate. You can see she wants the fussing but is still learning to trust it’s okay. It has amazed us how much trust she has shown with a little understanding and kindness. She is such an easy dog, she’s not at all needy just wants to be loved. She deserves a loving family who will give her the time in calm surroundings to build on her confidence in a home and with people.

I wouldn’t say she relies on our dog for confidence but will look for him and take his lead. She is so content in the company of dogs we feel she would be happiest to have another dog in the home. She is calm in the house and will settle quickly but she has a lot of energy when out so needs lots of exercise and the opportunity to run and play as well as plenty of good sniffs to use her nose. She’s a clever dog so would love a family who will test her brains too.
