Welcome Persil who has recently arrived from Crete and is now settling in to her foster home in the UK.
In January whilst the team were at the shelter in Crete a lady dropped doff 4 small pups in a box. They didn't stand much chance, sadly one little one passed, but the other 3 were survivors and above all odds managed to stay alive. 2 siblings were adopted by locals before we could get there, but little Persil was left. Now safe with us in the UK she has the best chance of a happy life. Persil was never handled or knew human kindness, so she can be a little shy, she will settle and trust, just needs a patient family. Persil is fully vaccinated, microchipped but too young to be neutered. Persil is a lovely sweet natured girl, but she will need consistency from a family to continue to help her to trust as she is not yet fully brave. The decision to adopt a rescue pup should not be taken lightly - we have had dogs returned as people have not been fully prepared for the hard work that can be needed. If you invest time and energy into the advice we give you, Persil will adapt well. But please do not underestimate this can mean a few weeks of consistent work. Our foster home has provided the feedback below: Dog's name: Persil Where does persil sleep at night? Persil likes to sleep in her bed at night which is located in my room. As she’s got more comfortable with me she likes to sometimes sneak up onto my bed and curl up at the bottom. She sleeps throughout the night and is clean too. How is persil with current pets? Persil is living with another foster dog and they live well together. They play nicely and isn’t too full on, she equally curl up in bed with Finn and relaxes. She’s also living with a tortoise who after an initial sniff she’s left him alone. She’s met our cat Felix too and was confident to go say hi, she could live with another cat if that cat is already use to dogs. Is persil clean indoors? Yes Is persil out on walks and how does she walk on lead? Persil walks nicely on lead, she’s often is trotting infront or next to you. She walks in a harness and slip lead. Has just Persil met with other dogs? Persil has met lots of different breeds of dogs and comes to work with me (I’m a dog Walker/trainer) she loves being around other dogs and meets them all with waggy tails. How is persil with humans? Persil is wary around people she doesn’t know but with the week of fostering her she’s come along way with myself. Shes learnt cuddles are nice and learnt to follow me in from the garden. I can now approach her in the garden and in the house and she doesn’t run off and allows me to pick her up for cuddles too. She keeps a wide birth from those she doesn’t know both on walks and in the house but with patience and teaching her to trust she does relax. Has persil been left alone? Persil Can be left for around 2 hours. Have you noticed persil is afraid of any particular things? Persil main worry is people but since being in my care where I’ve put the time and Patience into building a relationship with her she’s come along way. I have started to see a glimpse of the lovely sweet personality. With people in the house to start with she moved away and watch from a distance. We encouraged her to spend time in the same room as us and have her lots of cuddles and she’s relaxing more and more each day. With people on a walk she doesn’t know or walking past schools while the children are out she can sometimes refuse to walk or she’ll pull past. So we’re working on building her confidence by walking in locations where there’re people throughout the walk and she can learn that people aren’t as scary as she currently thinks they’re. The perfect family for persil Persil could live as an only dog or with another dog(s), she could also live a cat who is or has already lived with dogs before. Persil is a lovely sweet girl but needs a family who are going to work on building a trusting relationship with her and that won’t just allow her to hide away. Persil might not be your best friend on day one but there is nothing more lovely than seeing a nervous dog learning to relax and trust you. Persil’s new family will need to take her in lots of scenarios to build her confidence. While In foster she’s been to the pub, group walks, solo walks, cricket matches and pet shops. Although nervous overtime she will become more confident. 22/05 |
