This is Nita. Before being taken in by the shelter, she spent most of the day chained up under a tree, with her puppy. They had filthy water, food from the waste bins - her goatherd owner had no money to feed them (apparently) and was knocking on doors asking for money. Both dogs were covered with fleas and ticks. They had shade but no shelter from the rain apart from the tree, no bedding just hard clay soil.
Nita is a very calm and gentle dog. She has a wonderful temperament with people and dogs, including puppies. She will be a fabulous pet.
With the correct training, guidance and boundaries she will settle well and we ask our adopters to be fully committed to doing whatever is needed to help her become the perfect pet.
Nita does dribble when she is nervous, if someone new comes into the room, she can start to dribble, bless her, she will adjust and settle but it is all new to her at the moment as she has only been out of the shelter a few days. So we do need adopters to be aware of this when adopt her.
Where does the Nita sleep at night?
Nita has the option of two different dog beds in my room but currently likes to sleep on the cool wooden floor. She enjoys morning snuggles.
How is the Nita with current dogs/animals?
Nita is living with my dog patch, she has sniffed patch and enjoys watching him but doesn’t seem interested in playing quite yet as she’s still timid and understanding how to interact.
She’s also living with a cat and hasn’t shown interest in chasing.
Is the Nita clean indoors?
Can the Nita be left alone?
Nita has been left alone for half hour and we are increasing this by the day, she happy being left and just lays down and waits for you to return.
Is the nita out on walks and how does he walk on lead?
Nita is a star on lead and loves being out on walks. She’s happy to follow along and get a tickles too.
Has Nita met with other dogs?
I am a dog walker so Nita has met lots of different dogs with different Temperaments, she is very tolerant with other dogs.
How is Nita with humans?
Nita is very timid and can be skittish at first, when she first came to me she was very unsure of every movement I made but once she learnt she was safe she started to follow me around and sit next to me while I’m in the garden or doing tasks. She’s still very timid around other people and will do a wide birth around them but with time and patience she is learning to trust and slowly walk up to the other people in our house.
Have you noticed the Nita is afraid or worried of any particular things?
As mentioned above Nita can be very timid around people but given time she’ll learn to trust I’ve already seen her starting to trust me and becoming my little shadow.
I’ve also noticed sudden movements or loud bangs can make her jump, this is improved once you learnt to trust me and when she learned to trust others she will learn not every movement is scary.
THE PERFECT FAMILY FOR NITA.
I think nita would enjoy a nice calm household where she can feel safe and enjoy snuggle. Where a family who will give her time and patience to settle in because at first she won’t want to play and will be very timid. over time she’ll learn to trust and slowly through trust her character will come out and you’ll be able to see how loyal and sweet she is.
I think Nita would like a home with another dog but this isn’t necessary for Nita but I do believe She wouldnt enjoy living with a bouncy dog.
The perfect family will also need to keep up her socialisation with different people because without this she won’t overcome the fear of people.
