Handsome scruff ball Nacho arrived form Portugal 29th May and is now ready to find his forever fmaily.
Please do read the write up below from his foster mum before applying.
Nacho is fun and loving but maybe would prefer to be the only dog in the home. We were told he wasn't a fan of male dogs but has lived happily with a male Labrador since arriving and no issues. Nacho knows who he likes and who he does not so just needs experienced adopters who will keep him socialising and not let him misbehave with other dogs on walks etc. A firm no and he stops immediately.
Nacho is missing some of his front teeth, tis makes his smile very unique. He is a wonderful boy who found himself at a shelter and deserved more. his time is now.
Please only apply if you are 100% committed to the hard work a rescue dog may need. The first week is very important and with the right boundaries and guidance Nacho will easily adjust and make a lovely addition to any home but adopters need to be fully prepared.
IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO ADOPT IMMEDIATELY PLEASE DO NOT APPLY AS YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE A REPLY.
Our foster home has provided the feedback below:
Dogs Name: Nacho
Arrival date: 29th June 2021
Where does Nacho sleep at night?
He has slept either in his bed next to me or by my feet. He settled and slept well but does wake up early. He will settle again if I pretend to be asleep.
How is Nacho with current pets?
We have 2 female Jack Russell Terriers – they have been grumpy with Nacho in the house, but they are getting better. Outside they are fine. He has been a good boy and respected their space. He will however stand up for himself and is not as submissive as the girls would like. We are also looking after a large male Labrador who Nacho is very fond of. Nacho has growled at him a couple of times but a sharp “no” stops this. We have 2 cats who Nacho has ignored so far. He has also showed no interest in the chickens or ducks.
Is Nacho clean in doors?
Initially no and we had quite a few accidents. Nacho has been amazing and quickly learnt what the garden is for. He has been clean in the house for 24 hours.
Can Nacho be left alone?
Yes. We have left Nacho on short, regular occasions and he has been fine. He does pace for a bit and then settles. He doesn’t bark or whine and hasn’t been destructive.
Is the Nacho out for walks?
Nacho LOVES his walks and gets super excited when he sees his harness and lead. – he is loving all the new smells and is very sniffy.
How does Nacho walk on the lead?
Nacho is fantastic on the lead and doesn’t pull at all. Each walk he is getting more and more confident which is lovely to see. I am using a harness which he seems to tolerate well.
Has Nacho met other dogs?
Nacho has met lots of other dogs on his walks and has been fine with most of them. There has been a couple of dogs who he has shown his teeth, but it did not go further than that.
How is Nacho with humans?
Nacho is definitely a people dog. He is a little nervous at first but will quickly come over for a stroke (especially if the human has cheese). He has attached to me very quickly and is like my shadow around the house. As soon as I sit down, he settles and relaxes. He loves cuddles and would enjoy being a lap dog. He can be quite needy and just wants to be close. This is quite normal but will need to be managed with firm boundaries. I have 2 boys aged 9 and 12 who he likes but is not really bothered about. He has shown no aggression at all towards people.
Have you noticed Nacho is afraid of any particular things?
Nacho is adapting really well to his new world. He has been great with general household noises such as the vacuum cleaner, my hairdryer and the steam iron. He is quite a nervous boy but has coped well in our noisy, crazy house. Nacho will cower or back away from anyone new, but this is getting better the more socialisation that he is getting.
Any other useful information?
Nacho loves his food and is a hungry boy. He is on the slender side and could do with gaining a bit more weight. Nacho is very nervous around his food and will stop eating at the slightest noise or movement. If I stand next to him and encourage him he eats it all. He does love cheese 😊
I think Nacho would like to be an only dog as he is more interested in people. He would love to have all the attention to himself. There would need to be a robust socialisation plan as Nacho does like other dogs and needs to continue to meet them. He could also live with another dog if they were calm and not reactive.
Nacho would really benefit from an experienced home and would not be suitable as a first dog. We have put in firm boundaries which he is responded well to, and this will need to be continued.
Nacho is likely to be quite flighty during the first few days until he attaches to his new family so this will need to be considered with any gates, doors, windows etc. Once he attaches, he won’t go far 😊
Nacho really enjoys being out and about so would love a family who will take him for lovely long walks.
Nacho has not shown any i
nterest in playing yet, but I think this will come with encouragement.
Nacho is yet to find his voice – we haven’t heard even the slightest woof yet despite my 2 dogs being very vocal.
Nacho has the most beautiful coat and would really benefit from a trip to a groomer. He also needs regular brushing to get rid of any tangles – fortunately, he does love being pampered 😊
Nacho is a sweet, quirky little boy who is full of personality. He will make the most wonderful addition to any family who are prepared to put in the time and effort needed to help him adjust to his new life. He has been a pleasure to foster, and I am so excited that he will soon find his forever home and a family who will give him all the love and attention that he deserves. Good luck Nacho xx
