Meet Monica, who arrived from Crete after living in the shelter nearly all her life.
Monica is one of our old ladies from the Crete shelter. She has seen her friends come and go yet she always remained. Waiting, resigned to her sad shelter life.
Until one day she was chosen to leave the shelter and become a loved part of a family.
Monica arrived a few days ago and is such a special lady. It has been a little overwhelming for her. Her life has changed from just sitting and eating all day with no interaction to walks, good food and human attention.
She is starting to realise her new life is good and is enjoying comfortable beds, walks and love - she now greets us at the door enthusiastically when we return to the house. As she deserves. She is also now enjoying trips in the car.
Monica has been in the shelter for at least 6 years. It’s her time to find a home where she can live a calm life, walks and cuddles. She has been surrounded by dogs her whole life and, even though she has no issues, we know she would prefer to be the only dog in the home so she can enjoy all the attention.
Monica needs to lose a few kilos so we hope a family will see through her extra pounds and be keen to help her become fitter.
IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO ADOPT IMMEDIATELY PLEASE DO NOT APPLY AS YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE A REPLY.
Our foster home has provided the feedback below:
Dog's name: Monica
Where does Monica sleep at night?
Either on my daughter's bed or on the stairs /landing
How is Monica with current pets?
She is still a little nervous around our other dogs but sniffs noses with them and if she forgets herself she joins in with them.
Is Monica clean indoors?
Yes very. We have had no accidents at all.
Can Monica be left alone?
Yes she is fine being left alone and glad to see you when you come back.
Is Monica out on walks?
Monica loves her walks. She happily trots along. She doesn’t mind traffic but still gives runners and strange dogs a wide berth. She is getting much better with strangers, just a little shy at first.
How does Monica walk on the lead?
she is good on the lead and waits patiently while her harness is put on.
Has Monica met with other dogs?
Yes we have 2 dogs. She was nervous at first but not aggressive at all. She is more interested in people than the dogs.
How is Monica with humans?
Monica loves cuddles and fuss with ‘her' people. In fact she would love to be cuddled all day. It takes her a short time to trust you but then she comes forward for fusses all the time. She loves having her tummy tickled and is very happy just to sit beside you. Sitting right next to you is her favourite place to be.
Have you noticed if Monica is afraid of any particular things?
Monica has been in the shelter for a long time and is taking her time adjusting to life outside. She making progress everyday but will need a home that is patient, recognises the small steps but does push her boundaries little by little.
Any other useful information ?
Monica was quite overweight when she arrived but is trimming up nicely. She can be a little picky about her food sometimes.
What is Monica's ideal home?
Monica would do best in a relatively quiet home where she is the centre of attention. She is a super sweet dog and is very loving. She loves her people and always loves attention.
