Meet UK rescue Millie. Millie was handed into rescue a few days ago. Sadly her family were not prepared for the work and effort required to own a dog.
It appears Millie has not been getting the right walks and has spent so many hours confined to a crate. At least the family realised she needed more and gave her to rescue rather than sell her or hand her to a non checked home. It has taken Millie a few days to adapt to her change of environment, learning what walks are, meeting other dogs and not being in a crate. Crate usage is very detrimental to normal dog growth and mental happiness and Millie is a classic example of misuse of crates and not being fully prepared. We want Millie to have the best future and want her to have a dog as a companion in the home, children over 12 years and experienced dog owners who will continue helping Millie adapt to her new life. She is fully vaccinated, microchipped but not yet neutered, we advise neutering within 1-2 month prior to her season. Adopters need to commit to doing this. With the right boundaries and guidance she will all easily adjust and make a great family pet. We ask our adopters to be 100% sure they are ready to commit to the training and consistent work required. Our foster home has provided the feedback below: Dogs name: Millie Where does Millie sleep at night? In the hallway with her foster brothers. Millie is taking a little time to adapt to her non crate life. So may need company and some guidance in her new home for a few days. How is Millie current dogs/animals? She loves dogs but will chases my cat. She did live with a cat but has not been taught boundaries. Is Millie clean indoors? Getting there…she is clean in the day but may have an accident overnight. She is adapting to life outside a cage. Can Millie be left alone? So far we have left her for around an hour. Millie is fine. I leave her toys to play with. Is Millie out on walks? Millie loves her walks but is a little slow. As she hasn’t been walked much before she will need to build up her stamina and fitness. but she enjoys her walks. How does Millie walk on the lead? Millie is great on her lead. She’s a strong girl so I use a harness. Has Millie met with other dogs? Yes she wants to play! She is a puppy and wants to play and interact like a normal puppy. So a new home need to give her lots of socialisation but some guidance and training classes would be a help. How is Millie with humans? Millie is a puppy and is learning her boundaries. She does jump up and needs boundaries to learn the ropes. She is clever so won't take long. Millie loves cuddles and is getting used to being brushed. She is a mid coat wire haired so will need daily grooming. Have you noticed if Millie has any particular fears? Little scared of cars, but just needs consistent exposure and will adapt well. Any other useful information? Millie loves fuss and cuddles. She will need full training and good firm boundaries. Regular brushing and good build up of walks. What kind of home do you think would be suitable? Millie would like another dog for company. She loves children, but not too young. She enjoys playing but also likes calm time. No cats as she chases them 04/01 |
