Meet special boy Marcus who arrived from Crete 9th August.
When you enter the shelter in Crete you are met by many dogs, all eager to receive some attention. When you walk through the kennels you get to an open area, with 8 dogs living inside. You are only likely to see 4 of the dogs as the others are shy and will hide. Never brave enough to come close, fear of being hurt.
Marcus was one of these shy dogs, just hid himself away. Until one day we managed to catch him, bless him he stayed put, no aggression, just shocked at human touch. We did not want to risk him never been caught again so he went to foster until he could travel.
Marcus realised not all humans were bad, and stopped running away and stayed for some affection.
Marcus is sweet, submissive, no issues with other cats or dogs. He likes his walks and then happy to lie in his bed and watch the day go by until dinner or another walk.
Marcus has not been handled for all of his life, he will need a patient home where over time he will become a bit more curious and bond stronger. But until then Marcus is an easy boy, clean indoors and just a sweet little soul who got his chance. At 2 years old he has so much of his life to now live.
Marcus is neutered, fully vaccinated and has a pet passport.
We ask our adopters to be 100% sure they are ready to commit to a shy soul who needs help experiencing life.
OUR PROCESS CAN BE SPEEDY IF YOU ARE A MATCH SO WE ASK ONLY APPLY IF READY TO HAVE A HOME CHECK AND ADOPT WITH NO PRIOR ENGAGEMENTS.
Our foster home has provided the feedback below:
Dog's name: Marcus
Where does Marcus sleep at night?
He sleeps soundly in his bed downstairs. We have also had him in his bed upstairs and he sleeps equally well. He does love a soft bed.
How is Marcus with current dogs/animals?
He pretty much ignores my 4 other dogs, he watches them out on walks and hangs around them but he’s not been keen to stick with them. He may play in time. He totally ignores both my cats and pays no attention to the chickens
Is Marcus clean indoors?
Yes and has been from day 1. In fact he doesn’t use the garden either he prefers to take it all with him and leave it out on a walk.
Can Marcus be left alone?
Yes we have left him often up to a few hours. He just sleeps in his cosy bed. He may have a little look around when there’s no people around just to see what’s about but settles well.
Is he out on walks?
Marcus is just starting to really enjoy his walks and that is a good reason to leave his bed. He prefers to follow and still not confident to have people behind him but he is now starting to walk alongside with the occasional trot to the front when he forgets himself.
He is shy when humans approach and very wary although better walking past adults he has a fear of loud playful children especially if moving fast and he want to get as far away as possible.
How does Marcus walk on the lead?
He’s very good. We have him on a harness at the moment as he feels more confident. He doesn’t pull at all but will sometimes stop if he hears something he doesn’t like. A little tug to encourage him and he starts walking.
Has Marcus met with other dogs?
Yes and he’s really not that interested. Rather keep himself to himself. I think if he met the right one, in time, he will have a playful side.
How is Marcus with humans?
He’s very wary but intrigued. He doesn’t run away just cowers a little. He clearly enjoys a chin rub or a bum scratch and in time he will be more accepting.
Have you noticed that Marcus is afraid of any particular things?
As previously said he doesn’t like children or lots of loud voices and shouting. He is learning to be around humans and the more he is exposed to them the better he is becoming.
Any other useful information?
Marcus likes his food but isn’t food driven at the moment. He wont be hand fed or take anything from you currently. He prefers to eat if you move away from him but this is getting better and he will eat when you are in the same room.
He is very tired a lot of the time and sleeps like a cat. He’s not used to so much exercise and the stress makes him sleep more.
He is progressing daily and I think he will be a great littler character before too long.
What kind of home do you think would be suitable?
Marcus needs a calm adult only home with people who will give him time and space but not allow him to shut himself away. He will progress much quicker if walked regularly and allowed to see the big world bit by bit.
A little confident push in the right direction and he will show his true colours before long. I can see he will be very loyal to his humans.
He can happily live with other dogs but I think he will settle just fine as an only dog too.
