Ella is a special needs little girlie, she is a lovely sweet girl who is just afraid and needs time and patience.
Ella was rescued with her brother Terry from a shelter in Crete.
They were very bonded, Terry was always a bit braver but both shy.
They travelled to the UK together and went into the same foster home but it was thought better to part them as we felt they would thrive apart.
Terry has been adopted and we now hope it can be Ella’s turn.
Ella is not the bravest girl. On one hand she is an easy dog to have in the home and on the other she is a challenge.
So I wanted to list her good and her more challenging points.
Ella is a sweet girl, no aggression at all, she will allow you to place her collar and lead on an, she will be the first to the door for walks. Ella hops in and out of the car without issue.
Ella has no issues with my dogs, she follows them happily, she eats with them, no food issues at all. She will sleep in the bed with them if in the same room. But she is also independent and doesn’t need them she just likes them being around.
Ella has bonded with me, she wags her tail when I speak to her, she likes her walks and her tail is mostly up. She wont run away, I can approach her, she will cower slightly still but no running away.
Ella loves to be upstairs with me if I go up there, she will run up, jump on the bed, roll over tail wagging for tickles.
If she is allowed she will sleep next to me in the bed and like to be touching.
Ella is clean indoors, no mess, she can be left for up to 3 hours no issues.
Ella sleeps through the night, very well behaved.
The progress in Ella over the last 2.5 weeks has bene immense, she has gone from always shaking, her tail always being between her legs, to tail wags, kisses, smiling. She has
Ella is wary of men, this is her biggest fear, she has not bonded yet with my husband, even after 2.5 weeks she will move away from him and not approach him. My husband can walk her easily on the lead, she wont try and run away from him, but her tail wont be up during the walk.
Ella is afraid of loud bangs, we live in the countryside and if she hears a gun shot she will cower and shake.
Ella will take some months to be fully brave but she has adapted and progressed in such a short time. We just need a family to see through the wary and see how she will be with some time and patience.
Ella has bonded well with me, she follows me, wags her tail, likes me being around. She will bond with others, just need someone to want to rescue her.
Ella is neutered, fully vaccinated and has a pet passport.
Ella will be a playful girl, she loves her walks. Depending on the home set up, her ideal homes could be, a single female, a female couple, a retired couple with time.
Ella could also adapt to a home with no children, another sociable calm dog who eventually would like to play.
With the right boundaries and guidance she will all easily adjust and make a great family pet. We ask our adopters to be 100% sure they are ready to commit to the training and hard work required.
IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO ADOPT IMMEDIATELY PLEASE DO NOT ASPPLY AS OUR ADOPTION PROCESS CAN BE SPEEDY YOU ARE AMATCH.
Our foster home has provided the feedback below:
Dog's name: Ella
Where does Ella sleep at night?
Ella sometimes sleeps upstairs with us, she curls in-between us and sleeps all night, not a peep. We do rotate her being downstairs with our dogs for a bit of detachment, she settles and sleeps well there also.
How is Ella with current pets?
No issues, follows them into the garden, walks well outside. Sleeps in the same beds, eats with them.
Is Ella clean indoors?
Yes, she has been clean from day one and is a good girl.
Can Ella be left alone?
Yes, she has been left for up to 3 hours, no issues. We have a spy camera and she paces initially but settles and sleeps in her bed.
Is Ella out on walks?
Yes, Ella walked straight away on her lead. She is wary still of loud noises and strangers. But has got into our routine, hops in the car, her tail is up most of the walk, she still has moments of feeling worried and her tail can go between her legs, but we keep moving and she relaxes. Her new family will just need to give her a little time to adapt to a routine, once she knows her routine she adapts well. She is waiting with my dogs at the door to go out.
How does Ella walk on the lead?
Well, she doesn’t pull. She walks either to heel or ahead, tail up enjoying sniffing. She prefers the extendable lead away from roads to have more freedom.
Has Ella met other dogs?
Yes, she does shy away but will then approach and have a sniff. She just needs time. She is more wary of the humans with the other dogs. She will prefer to go into the side, sit and wait for them to pass. With time and regular meetings she will become braver.
How is Ella with humans?
Wary, this is her biggest area that needs some guidance. She wants to approach, but has not had any good experiences until arriving to the UK so just needs time and experiences. We have had visitors she is curious and depends how long they stay she will eventually allow them to pet her and she will sit in the same room.
Ella now enjoys cuddles, follows me around and is curious as to where we are and what we are up to. Ella is getting braver each day, now climbs next to me on the sofa in the evening rather than hiding away. She gets excited at bed time as loves cuddles and getting close.
Have you noticed if Ella is afraid of any particular things?
Ella needs time to adapt to UK life, humans mainly. She is great with dogs, walks, clean indoors, and very easy to have in the home.
Any other useful information ?
Ella was a forgotten soul in the Crete shelter, we do not know how she ended up there, either born or thrown at the gates, She was not handled, walked or given any human attention. So it has been a big change for her. But she is doing amazing in just one week, so it will not take her long to full adapt with guidance from a family who want to do a great thing and help a rescue dog.
Ella's Ideal home:
Ella would prefer a calm home, we do not think she would like to be in a home with children as that would be a bit worrying. Another sociable dog under 10 years old would help her settle. Men are her fear so a female only home or a male who is patient and understands she will take some time to bond with him.
A family who have the time to help her feel braver, walks, security but also will help her get out and experience UK life. Ella needs time to adapt, she gets braver each day but a new family need to appreciate it will take some weeks/months for her to be fully bonded and brave. Once she gets that chance we know she will be a lovely, happy sociable sweet girl. She just needs a family to give her the chance.
