Gorgeous Cracker arrived recently from Crete. He was thrown into a shelter and forgotten.
He had not been handled much and so was initially wary when moved to a foster home. But he soon blossomed and is a sweet happy playful boy. Life in the UK is all so new for Cracker but having a week over Christmas in foster has been great for him. Cracker has enjoyed guests in the home, lovely walks and lots of cuddles. Cracker still needs some basic guidance, he is mainly clean indoors, getting braver on his walks, but just needs consistent guidance to keep progressing. Cracker loves cuddles and will adapt quickly, he can live with dogs cats and children over 8 years. Cracker is fully vaccinated, microchipped but not yet neutered so adopters need to commit to do this when ready. All families will need to be prepared for the consistent work of introducing a dog to her new life in the UK - basic training, toileting, walking on and off lead, getting used to noises and living in a home. The decision to adopt a dog should not be taken lightly - we have had dogs returned as people have not been fully prepared for the consistent work that maybe needed. Our foster home has provided the feedback below: Dog's Name : Cracker Arrival date: 20th December 2022 Where does Cracker sleep at night? Cracker sleeps downstairs with 2 of our dogs. He is a super good boy and sleeps from around 11pm until when we get up about 7am. He sleeps either in one of the dog beds or on the sofa. He is clean overnight. How is Cracker with current pets? We have 3 small female dogs who Cracker is great with. They are all fond of him and will take it in turns to entertain him. We have a cat called Brian who Cracker ignores. He feared him to start with and would avoid him but now they will happily lie together. Brian is a very bold and dog savvy cat. Cracker wants to “play” with the chickens and would chase them given the chance. Is Cracker clean in doors? Yes, mostly. He is using the garden well and we only get the odd wee accident inside. He is a good boy and always uses a puppy pad. Can Cracker be left alone? Yes, we have left Cracker for up to 3 hours with our dogs. If he has been walked, he will just settle and sleep until we get home. He is quiet and hasn’t been destructive at all. Is Cracker out for walks? Cracker LOVES his walks!! He gets so excited when he sees his harness and lead and will sit nicely whilst it is put on. How does Cracker walk on the lead? Cracker walks beautifully on the lead. He likes to be close to his human so often will walk to heal. He gets a bit nervous if he sees other dogs or people but with some encouragement, he will continue. After 10 days he can now go off lead and his re call is really good. He doesn’t like to go far away from us. He loves to sniff and is enjoying all the new smells. Has Cracker met other dogs? Cracker gets a little nervous around other dogs out and about and is still a little unsure what to do. He wants to say hello but is sometimes too shy. Often, he will have a little whine and a woof before he is brave enough to go close. We are working hard with this and trying to get him out and meeting other dogs as often as we can. He is getting braver every day and his new owners will need to continue with lots of socialisation to avoid this becoming an issue. How is Cracker with humans? Cracker is a super sweet and gentle soul who has had a very tough start to his life, so he is naturally shy of new people. He has bonded quickly with me and is very affectionate. He loves cuddles and he gives the best kisses. He is like a soppy teddy bear and just wants as much love as you can shower upon him. It did take him longer to bond with my husband and sons, but he is now happy to be around them. He will make a lovely addition to any family. Have you noticed Cracker is afraid of any particular things? Cracker is nervous of new people and other dogs outside of the house. He is also frightened of my ironing board when I put it up. Any other useful information? Cracker LOVES his food and is a hungry boy. He will eat anything and has loved all the treats over Christmas. We are seeing more and more of Cracker’s character coming out every day. He is super playful with dogs and people and once he warms to you, is so much fun. He makes us laugh all the time with his puppy antics. He loves all the toys and anything else he can get hold over. Over Christmas he has loved all the wrapping paper and cardboard and will run off with bits if he gets a chance. He does love an antler or a hoof to chew on. Cracker can be a little mouthy as a lot of puppies can be – we just give him a toy to chew instead and he is learning fast. Cracker travels well in the car. We have done journeys of up to 30 mins with no issues at all. New Year fireworks were not an issue for Cracker who just slept through them. Although Cracker is super playful, he is also very chilled in the house. Once back from his walk he is happy to find a comfy space and sleep. He would be the perfect working from home companion. We have hardly heard him bark at all. He could live with another kind and gentle dog. He wouldn’t cope with a boisterous dog. He could also happily live as an only dog if he got an endless supply of love and affection. Cracker has the softest most snuggly coat ever which makes it very hard to resist cuddling him all the time – he is such a time waste. Cracker would love a family/person who can devote lots of time to him and take him for lovely long walks. He will give so much joy and happiness in return. We absolutely adore Cracker and are so excited that he will soon find his forever home and a family who will give him all the love and kindness that he deserves. Good luck gorgeous Cracker xx 02/01 |
