Meet Cooper who has just arrived in the UK having been rescued from a terrible shelter in Crete.
Cooper was one of the forgotten souls, likely came to the shelter as a puppy and missed out on walks, love, kindness. Neutered without pain medication. Just forgotten. Cooper got his chance and is now in the U.K. and doing so well. He still can be shy and will need some patient consistence adopters to help guide him. Cooper is fully vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. Cooper has spent a little time in foster, but is still in need of continued training. So his new family will need to be prepared for the work of introducing him to domestic life in the UK - basic training, toileting, walking on and off lead, getting used to noises and living in a home. With the right boundaries and guidance he will easily adjust and make a great family pet. We ask our adopters to be 100% sure they are ready to commit to the training and consistent work required. Our foster home has provided the feedback below: Dog's name: Cooper Where does Cooper sleep at night? Cooper sleeps in the dining room alongside my other dogs. He settles quickly and sleeps through the night. He greets us excitedly with a big waggy tail and goes straight out to the garden in the morning. How is Cooper with current animals? Cooper is settled in well with our dogs, especially our 2yr old male (whom he shared a kennel with back in Crete). They have a real loving relationship and they often share a bed and sleep on top of each other. Cooper will use him for comfort when he gets spooked. Also, Cooper is fine with our older lady dog, who keeps him in line with the house rules. Cooper is fine with the cat, in fact the cat often walks up to him and they sniff each other. They occasionally sleep next to each other during the day. The cat also follows us on walks. Is Cooper clean indoors? Yes, he uses the garden for his toileting. We have had no accidents. Can Cooper be left alone? Yes, he gets left with my dogs and goes to his bed. He has been left on many occasions for over an hour without problem. Is Cooper out on walks? Yes, he was quite anxious on his first couple of walks but now absolutely loves going out. He is quite inquisitive but walks out with a waggy tail. He wears a slip lead and a harness mostly but we have moved onto the 10m training lead and have even started to drop that so he can have a proper run at times. He comes back with our other dogs and is starting to recognise his own recall queues. How does Cooper walk on the lead? On his first couple of walks, Cooper understandably showed some some nervousness and pulled on his lead. He now shows excitement and walks so much better. He is still a little funny getting his harness on but knows its for a good reason so this is improving every day. He walks calmly with our dogs and is getting more nosy with each walk. He walks past other dogs with no real reaction. Has Cooper met with other dogs? He has seen dogs when out and doesn’t pay much attention to them if they are walking by on their lead. He has stopped to sniff a few off lead dogs. How is Cooper with humans? Cooper is a shy boy but is improving all the time. He will come up to us for a tickle. He is much more approachable but still sometimes backs off if we approach him. He likes to sit next to us on the sofa and enjoys belly rubs. He lets me put his lead and harness and allows me (reluctantly) to dry his paws when he comes in. He doesn’t approach strangers and backs away if they reach out to him but he stands patiently while I stop to chat to people on our walks. Cooper has really improved around men recently but it’s been a slow journey and needs continued patience. He will now lie next to my husband on the couch and allow him to tickle him and walks well with him but can still get spooked quite easily. We have had several visitors (male and female, mainly teenagers), and Cooper seems fine with them, if a little wary, but there have been no bad reactions to visitors. Have you noticed that Cooper is afraid of any particular things? Cooper doesn’t like any sudden movements and is not always keen on you approaching him and often backs away. He doesn’t like the hoover or hairdryer but seems fine with other general household noises. Sometimes he shows nervousness if he hears a dog barking and will move from where he is. Cooper is not overly bothered by traffic but does sometimes stand still and watch it go by, especially if it’s a truck or bus. Any other information? Cooper is already doing amazingly well in the short time he has been with us. We think he is adorable, friendly, sweet natured boy and shouldn’t be waiting any more time to find his forever home. He recognises the sound of his dinner being put out and really enjoys his food at mealtimes. He is food motivated, so this makes it easier to reward and encourage him. Cooper enjoys his toys and likes to empty the toy box taking each toy to his bed. He also likes antlers, horns and chew sticks. He follows our dogs out into the garden and back in again. He did pace a lot both inside and in the garden at first and it took him a little while to feel confident. What kind of home do you think would be suitable? Cooper is extremely handsome, sweet natured boy, with so much love to give. He’ll need a little time, patience, and perseverance from a loving family. He is already adapting to home life even in the short time that we’ve known him. I think Cooper will thrive in a calm home with patient owners and ideally another playful, sociable dog that he can follow and who will show him the ropes. His new family need to give him time to adapt to this new life and be willing to continue training, giving him lots of socialisation and exposure to new things, as all dogs need. He is settling and is learning quickly, so it would be lovely for him to be getting the love, attention and learning the ropes at his forever home. 13/4/23 |
