We are delighted to help another racing greyhound, leave the sad life of racing and misery and finally have a cosy bed, walks for fun, cuddles and enjoy a free life away from a concrete kennel and racing track.
The greyhound. racing industry is not a good life for dogs. Yes Greyhounds like to chase, but the lives they endure so humans can financially benefit should not be accepted.
Archie spent all his life bred, kept for the racing life. But now in 2022, he is loving his freedom.
Archie is a funny chap, cheeky, playful, affectionate. Just adorable life we know these majestic creatures to be.
So sad that he was never able to show this side of him. But now he is loving each day.
Archie loves his walks, he can be strong n the lead but this is excitement, this will ease with some guidance.
Archie can live as an only dog but all dogs should be able to meet other dogs when on walks etc. He is fine with his foster brother dog. Not wanting to play with him but good.
Archie loves zooms and found his love of toys.
Our foster home has provided the feedback below:
Dog's name: Archie
Where does Archie sleep at night?
We live in a bungalow and Archie sleeps in the hallway outside our bedroom with no problems at all. He will whine or pace if he needs to go out for the toilet.
How is Archie with current dogs/animals?
Archie is fine with our dog and a little shy with other dogs but no problems.
Is Archie clean indoors?
When archie first arrived. He was scenting and he did have a few wee accidents indoors. He has never lived in a house before but If the doors are open he will automatically go out to go to toilet. We are working on him asking to go out when he needs to go and that is going really well.
He has not had any accidents in last 3 days so I believe he has got the hang of it now.
However, if a ‘scary situation’ arises i.e. the window cleaner, he needs lots of reassurance that it is ok otherwise he pees because he is scared or worried. But easily sorted if you are aware of this and I think it will stop once he feels settled and safe.
Can Archie be left alone?
Archie can be left alone for short periods
Is Archie out on walks?
Archie loves his walks and we are building his stamina. He gets so excited when he realises we are going out.
How does Archie walk on the lead?
Archie is initially strong on the lead with excitement but once he calms down, he walks fine. He is nervous of passing and approaching strangers, particularly men, and can struggle on the lead a little bit but if we stand still, he calms quickly.
Has Archie met with other dogs?
Archie has not met with many other dogs so far but he happily passes with no problems and I don’t anticipate any problems.
How is Archie with humans?
Archie loves his humans. He loves to be with his humans and he loves fuss and attention. He is nervous of visitors to start with but warms up after a while.
Have you noticed that Archie is afraid of any particular things?
Archie is still getting to grips with household noises and general life outside of a kennel. He is a little nervous in new situations but copes with reassurance.
He is shy of strangers and we are working on that.
Any other useful information?
Archie is loving life outside of the kennel and becoming and lovely boy.
What kind of home do you think would be suitable?
Archie is a big boy at 32 kilos, he will need lots of space to play and run. I think Archie could live with or without another dog.
He will need someone who can hold him on his lead when he first goes out for his walk as is initially strong on the lead. He is starting to play and have fun.
A calmer household with older children, just because he is big and can get excited when playing.
Archie is a very loving, calm natured boy who likes to be with his humans and play and sleep in a nice wArm comfy bed
