Meet Blossom, one of our wonderful South Korean meat farm rescue dogs.
Humane Society are doing such wonderful work in South Korea closing dog meat farms and we are delighted to be their UK partner in helping some of the Farm 17 dogs. 70 dogs were kept in horrifically cruel conditions, on metal bars, waiting for their age of slaughter, watching other dogs being slaughtered. Mothers having babies. Such a cruel life for these sweet sentient souls. We welcomed 10 of the Farm 17 dogs into the UK Saturday 9th April and they all went to live with our wonderful foster families to help them learn to live in homes with families, adapt to normal home noises, teaching them to walk and enjoy human company. All the dogs are adapting so well and we are always surprised how amazing dogs are and how they forgive and are able to move past their pasts. Blossom is a wonderful girl who has bonded to her foster family and foster doggie sister. She is fully vaccinated and microchipped, but is too young to be neutered so adopters will be asked to commit to doing this as soon as she is old enough. Blossom isn't the finished article as yet and she will need an experienced understanding home, with another sociable dog under age 10. The family must be able to give our girlie guidance and help her progress and show her all about UK life. Blossom is clean indoors, enjoys her walks, can be handled and comes to her family for affection. Please read below a full write up from her foster home. Unfortunately Blossom has just come into season, we will still consider adoption if a family are experienced and prepared to keep her safe and neuter within 3 months. IF YOU DO NOT MEET THE CRITERIA OR ARE NOT ABLE TO HAVE A HOME CHECK AND MEET SOON PLEASE DO NOT APPLY AS YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE A REPLY. Our foster home has provided the feedback below: Dog's name: Blossom Where does Blossom sleep at night? Blossom has been with us for a few days now. She sleeps in the dining room area, near to my dog. At bedtime, I let them in the garden and then she goes straight on to her dog bed and sleeps right through. How is Blossom with current animals? Blossom is very sweet natured. She is great with my dog and the other little foster who was here when she first arrived. They both go happily in and out of each other’s space. Blossom doesn’t follow her around too much but will follow her out into the garden and back again. She is absolutely fine with our cat, who often joins us on our walks. Is Blossom clean indoors? Yes, Blossom uses the garden and goes out with my dog. She will not yet let you know if she needs to go out , so regular trips out are needed at the moment. She can take a little while to go at times but comes and sits by the back door to come back in, unless it is open and she will run back in. Can Blossom be left alone? Blossom has been left a frequently up to about 40/50 mins so far, with my dog. I leave them both in the dining room, she wanders around for a bit and then settles on her bed. Given the chance, Blossom would follow us around everywhere, as she does like to be near us, so we leave her regularly throughout the day when indoors too. Is Blossom out on walks? Yes. She lets me put on a harness and a slip lead and we head out with my dog. We go out twice a day around 40 mins each time at the moment. She is still getting used to her surroundings while out and is wary of passing cars and may stop until they pass by. She will sometimes stand still and watch as people and dogs walk past but other times she will pass them by too. Blossom hasn’t been anywhere too busy with traffic yet but as the motorway runs parallel to part of the woods where we walk, she is getting used to the traffic noises. She reluctantly lets me wipe her feet when she comes in from walks. How does Blossom walk on the lead? Blossom walked quite slowly and hesitantly at first but her walking improves daily. Blossom enjoys a good sniff. She walks alongside or slightly behind but does not pull. She walks on a harness and enjoying her walks. Has visited the pub and enjoyed her time out. Has Blossom met other dogs? Blossom has met quite a few dogs when out walking and has been great. She sometimes stops to give each other a sniff, or watch them go by with their owners or she will just walk past them. She has met up with my friend and her dog and they were very polite with each other, giving each other a sniff. And fine when in each other’s space while walking on their leads. Very occasionally, and understandably, she has given out a short low growl when approached by dogs with little or no recall, especially if they keep running up to her and sniffing at her. How is Blossom with humans? Blossom is amazing, so sweet natured and she loves attention. She comes up to us for strokes and cuddles and likes to lie down at our feet. She is a very licky young lady. Occasionally she looks wary and will back away if you move quickly but she mainly lets you approach her and is up for a cuddle. She likes to be close by and sit at our feet. She is excited to see me in the morning, so can be a bit jumpy and sometimes a bit of a ‘mouther’. I ignore this behaviour and only give fuss when it stops. She didn’t do it this morning, just happily accepted lots of fuss. So these boundaries need to continue as she is quite a big puppy. She has met a few of my friends and neighbours and will accept a tickle and a dog treat from them. She did bark at one visitor the day after she arrived but did happily accept tickles and a treat off her. She has been a great hit with all who have met her. Have you noticed that Blossom is afraid of any particular things? Blossom is still getting used to everything both in and out of the home. She doesn’t like the hoover or washing machine when it spins. She is wary of sudden movements or noises. Blossom sometimes is a bit hesitant coming in the back door if you’re standing near, so when she does this, I go slightly out of sight, call her and then she walks straight in. As mentioned, she is still wary of passing cars and will stop until they pass. She will sometimes back away. Any other information? Blossom is a beautiful, affectionate girl. She won us over in seconds. She is a very licky lady. Blossom is very patient and will let you handle her and groom her. She does shed heavily twice a year, so will need grooming daily when this happens. She has a bit of a prey drive, she did pull when seeing a squirrel in front of her. Blossom seems to adore human company. She is affectionate and likes cuddles and strokes. When we’re about, she has been given the luxury of the sofa next to us but she generally prefers to sleep at our feet. She is not playing yet but is slowly starting to show an interest in toys. She does like a Kong filled with dog food and a chew on a horn. She is a young girl and still learning, so as mentioned, can be a bit jumpy and a bit of a ‘mouther’. I feel she needs an active home with people who are willing to give her the time, the socialisation and training to fulfil her needs. What kind of home do you think would be suitable? Blossom will be a fabulous, affectionate, loyal pet. She is an absolute hit with my husband, myself and our 2 teenagers. She has already shown what a wonderful addition and companion she will be to a family, due to her affectionate nature and personality. She is still young so will need people who can give her walks and attention she needs. I think she would love to be part of a family. Blossom has been great with our cat. She seems to love the company of people and dogs. While I think living with another dog might be good, I think she would also be O.K as an only dog. It has been lovely having this beautiful girl in our home, she is a brilliant dog and has fitted in quickly. We will miss her but it will fantastic for her to get the love, attention and security she deserves in her forever home. Unfortunately Blossom has just come into season, we will still consider adoption if a family are experienced and prepared to keep her safe and neuter within 3 months. 14/04 |
